Based on all
my participation in an international historical conference it’s a professionally
and personally a rewarding experience. Thought about socializing with
colleagues researchers from other countries, hear interesting presentations that
might lead you to discovering new research ideas and off course visiting new city
or country, always makes me look forward to new conferences. Though my historic
research area was always related to Lithuania’s Royal court traditions: from royal
hunt to royal manors, it’s quite broad and actually in some cases not the
easiest one to work because of the difficult past of this country. It was occupied and harmed for many years,
with main goal - to break it and make it’s people forget the best times it had
when was ruled by our own royalty and nobles. One main way to do it is to destroy
symbols of nation’s identity and off course historical documents. These facts
condition that some of most interesting researches might always end up in dead
end, where you can’t find any original and valuable information. This and
lately occurred difficult relationship between Lithuania and neighboring
countries made me take a deeper look to the history of diplomatic ties and
Lithuania’s diplomacy in general. This shift of interests, helped me find a
great new international historians network which specializes only in historical
diplomacy. They seek to organize two conferences per year in order colleagues
from all over the world to meet and exchange their researches, make new connections
and also have chance to take a better look at the city or town where event
takes place. The first conference I had pleasure to attend as an observer, took
place in European University Intitute in Florence in March 2015.
